The Summer of Archives: An Update from Archive Valley

Catch up with the latest news from Archive Valley as we prepare to head down to La Rochelle for Sunny Side of the Doc 2017.

It’s been a busy few months at Archive Valley, and as we get ready to spend the next month hitting the road to meet producers, researchers and film archivists from around the world, here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to and a look at what’s ahead.

New footage request features launch in our beta platform

After closing a round of fundraising and receiving tons of useful input from our community of beta users and 100+ archive providers over past months, we’re working to deploy a final batch of new functionalities on our beta platform before we launch beta v2.0 with a whole new easy-to-use design. Now on the platform, footage requests feature more vital details such as licensing needs and project type to help archives give you a better idea of their pricing right off the bat, when sending you previews or shotlists. If you like what you see, Ordering a Master can be done right on the platform, and you can now pay your licensing and other fees directly on the platform by major credit card. Our direct-to-vendor payment service is powered by Stripe, the new standard-setter in online payments.

Now add licensing needs and project details to your footage request.

If you haven’t yet signed up for free access to our beta platform, you can do so here, and tell your colleagues about us, too. The more the merrier!

Promoting our community at key Documentary Industry events

Throughout the month of June, our team is traveling to meet producers, archive researchers, archivists and film collectors to expand and promote our community of researchers, content creators and unique image providers. Members of the Archive Valley team will be present at Realscreen West in LA as well as at Sheffield Doc/Fest in the United Kingdom before we all head to La Rochelle, France for Sunny Side of the Doc 2017.

'Historic' at Sunny Side of the Doc 2017

As you may know, this year we’ve partnered with Sunny Side for their program under the theme ‘Historic’ to shine a spotlight on the important work of archive researchers and archives in preserving our audiovisual heritage and making these images available to audiences for generations to come. During this year’s program we’re pleased to present the Archive Valley Award to one deserving team participating in the historical film pitch contest on Tuesday, June 20th. The winner will receive special access to Archive Valley, allowing them a free consultation on their subject – and how to approach sourcing archive material for it – from a member of our community of professional archive researchers.

If you’re going to be at any of these events, reach out to us on Twitter, leave a comment below, or mail us at hello@archivevalley.com. We’d love to see you!
